Before returning to the hotel, you could choose to join your leader for an optional group dinner at Jalan Alor to sample Kuala Lumpur’s thriving culinary scene and perhaps take a tour of the quaint Bukit Bintang.
You will travel to Butterworth this morning by taking the local metro to the train station. Take a private transfer from here to George Town, the multicultural capital of the island of Penang and a former port city that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. To acquire your bearings, go on an orientation walk with your guide when you arrive. After that, take some time to browse at your own leisure. Just in time for a freshly made meal served by the locals, you will reach the Lake Muda Jetty. After that, you’ll take a boat to Earth Lodge in Kuala Labua, a socially conscious organisation that uses ecotourism, low carbon footprint practices, and research and awareness to fight for the forest’s preservation. Tucked away from the bustle of the city, your lodging for tonight is surrounded by nature.Explore the neighbouring jungle paths, meandering rivers, and verdant tropical rainforest from this ideal starting point. When you get there, you’ll have a river cruise where you can observe local wildlife—if you’re lucky, you might even see some elephants!—before having a free evening to unpack and get settled.
You will put on your walking shoes for the hike into Bukit Labu after breakfast this morning, escorted by a knowledgeable guide. As your guide explains all about the local flora and fauna that inhabit this verdant rainforest, pay close attention. Be on the lookout for elephants! Before hiking back to your lodging and stopping by Salt-lick Hot Springs, where local wildlife, including elephants, comes to obtain their minerals, have a picnic lunch by the river. Take another river excursion in the late afternoon to increase your chances of viewing wildlife.
Your private transfer will be waiting for you as you make your way to the Cameron Highlands, so bid the forest farewell this morning and return to the jetty. Covered in strawberry fields and tea plantations, the rolling green highlands are a tranquil place with a cool climate. When you get there in the middle of the day, you’ll have some free time to explore the neighbourhood market stalls and have some authentic Malay food.
Treat your taste buds to some traditional fare direct from a neighbourhood street stand and have breakfast like the locals. This is Malay-style breakfast on the run! After you’ve refuelled, head out to a mossy forest trail to walk through this mist-covered area and stretch your legs. Beneath the rich, green moss, your guide will point out the unusual plants that call this place home. After that, you’ll return to reality by touring one of the nearby tea plantations to discover more about the process of making tea here and to take in the seemingly endless rows of verdant bushes that cling to the slope. You might want to check out Cameron Floral Park this afternoon, which is free.
Today, you will take a local express bus back to Kuala Lumpur and then take a metro back to your accommodation. After arriving in the middle of the afternoon, you have the rest of the day to spend exploring this vibrant city. Perhaps visit the Sultan Abdul Samad Building or the viewing deck atop the 451-meter-tall Petronas Twin Towers. Perhaps commemorate your adventure by going to an optional farewell meal tonight.
