Overview of Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur

Chinatown, known locally as Petaling Street, is a vibrant and bustling area in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This cultural hub is renowned for its rich history, diverse food offerings, and lively markets, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists.

Overview of Sri Maha Mariamman Temple

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, founded in 1873 by K. Thamboosamy Pillai. It is located at the edge of Chinatown on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, making it a significant cultural and religious site for the Indian community, particularly for Tamils who view Mariamman as a protector during their travels abroad

Historical Significance

Initially a private shrine for the Pillai family, the temple opened its doors to the public in the late 1920s. It has undergone several renovations, with the current structure completed in 1968. The temple is not only the oldest but also reputed to be the richest Hindu temple in Malaysia

. The original structure was replaced due to its deteriorating condition, and the impressive gopuram (tower) was completed in 1972.

The Chan See Shu Yuen Association is an ancestral Chinese temple where you can observe the open courtyards and exquisite exterior wall decoration that evokes Chinese culture.

This symbol of Malaysian independence, also known as Independence Square, is one of the world's most beautiful squares.

The Independent, a UK online news portal, recently named The River of Life Kuala Lumpur one of the top 10 waterfront districts in the world. Equipped with a Dancing Symphony Fountain, Blue Corridor, fog, and lighting effects, visitors can expect a stunning visual experience when visiting this stretch of riverfront at the heart of KL.

In this spectacular fountain scene, dozens of water jets in the park’s artificial lake will shoot up in the air, and colorful beams of light dance through the water. The harmony of water and bright colors makes the scene more sparkling and radiant. With two fountains with an intelligent display of water, the Symphony Lake has five programs with 380 individually sequenced jets of water that shoot up to a maximum height of 42 m. While waiting for the show to start around 8pm, you can enjoy shopping at the nearby Suria KLCC, housing over 320 high-end local and international retailers; brands represented include Coach, Kate Spade, and Jimmy Choo. Remember to return to Lake Symphony in time to see the KLCC fountain water show, though!
